After a sleepy, quiet weekend in the northern suburb of St. Albans, I made my way to London for a short city 2-day trip. It was not my first trip to London (especially if you count all the airport trips I have done in the last four months). I did a tour at the end of May but I don't think I should count that trip because I was too sick to enjoy it.

This time I covered ground on my own without a guide. Well without a human guide, I used my GPS My City app to get around. Here are a few fun What is Happening Here? moments and impressions.

There is a lot of green space in London. Lovely parks are everywhere; the bonus is that you may find a palace or other grand place attached.

Very grateful for the helpful signs so I didn't get hit by a bus. It's soooo much easier and safer to get around when you know the language and can read the signs!

Big fan of pubs, but not a big fan of the warm bitter beers. Sincere gratitude to the lovely girl behind the bar who had me taste the flat, warm stuff before recommending a local Pilsner. Seriously, the other stuff was like if you had accidentally picked up a beer in a plastic cup that had been sitting in the sun for a few hours. Blech!

London has some quirky spots, like the street poet in Portobello market. Pay him, give him a topic and he will clickity-clack away on his typewriter to write you a verse or two.

It also has lots of shopping! I miss shopping. They even have my favorite place...

but they went too far in the alphabet?

London's transportation system is easy, even easier now that you can just use your contactless credit card instead of finding an Oyster card.

However, walking is the best way to just happen on cool places.

It was a short trip and I barely scratched the surface of what London has to offer. I guess I will have to wander back again!

Next up, the opposite of bustling London: Nagarjuna Kadampa Meditation Centre.
