Canceled Amsterdam

Yesterday, in the evening announcements the captain shared that he was concerned about our docking in Amsterdam port due to forecasted high winds. The issue is that the ship would have to go into the locks and high winds would make that difficult in the morning as we arrived and nearly impossible in the evening as we were heading to sea. He shared that he was watching the forecast and hoped that it would change for the better.
Hmmmm…lots of questions! What happens if we try and the wind is too much? What happens if we get stuck in Amsterdam? Am I about to become one of those people in news stories about cruise ships?
Well, none of those questions needed answering because our captain is smart and experienced (and has a sense of humor), qualities I am very thankful for.
Last night was a bit rocky on the ship, which I love by the way because it is like a rocking chair but when lying down. I woke to the captain's voice saying, there had been no improvement and that the decision had been made to skip Amsterdam.
So, turn off that alarm set for an excursion and sleep a few more hours until the captain shares the good news that they had secured permission from Bruges to dock early, so off we go.
I haven't been out of my cabin yet, but I can already hear my loud-talkers complaining and/or praising the captain's decisions. But for me, the armchair quarterbacks (especially the 200 from Wisconsin) can SHUT IT! and be glad that we aren't stuck somewhere and a news story.
